Good morning!! As you can clearly see, I’m definitely not a morning person. I would much rather sleep in than get up super early especially for school. I set alarms every 5 minutes, from 6:20 am to 6:45 am to make sure I leave the house on time. I even set alarms to remind me to get pictures for the blog! My day to day life is usually extremely busy, so setting alarms helps me stay on time.
As a senior, I had the opportunity to apply for the Health Occupations program which allows me to take classes to earn my CNA license. I spend the first two class periods of the school day at Paris Community Hospital in Paris, Illinois. This is the closest hospital to Clark County, where I live. Pictured with me are my friends Ripun and Annie. We carpool back and forth to Health Occ, and we switch drivers every week. Health Occ is an amazing work-ready program. I’ve learned so many amazing life skills already and I can’t wait to see what else is in store with the class!
We also have a mannequin that we keep in the classroom to practice our nursing skills on. We treat it just like it was a real patient. So far we know how to bathe, provide oral care, nail care, dress a resident/patient, ambulate (walk) residents/patients, transfers safely, and so much more.
Health Occ runs from 7:30 am to 9:15 am, however there are some days that we get out a little earlier or even a lot later. My Christmas break started on Monday so I didn’t have to go back for a normal school day after class. On a normal day, I would go to Health Occ then return to school for the remainder of the day. There are some days where I have Health Occ but no school, or vice versa.
We did it! Ripun and I both had to take a college final today as part of our College Biology Science Dual Credit course. We won’t know our scores for a few days but fingers crossed that we both pass
After taking my Bio final and sitting through Health Occ, I was beyond ready to come home and relax. I love to binge watch NCIS on Netflix. You can always find me watching something on Netflix. It’s my go-to stress reliever!
This time of year is my absolute favorite! I love Christmas music, decorating the tree, and most of all, wrapping presents. My Christmas socks were a gift this year from Annie. They are super adorable and comfy! After watching a few episodes of NCIS, I decorated my little white Christmas tree in my room and wrapped all my Christmas presents for my friends and family. It’s my own personal wonderland.
Once I was finished decorating and wrapping, I had to shower and start getting ready for the home basketball game. I’m captain of my school’s dance team. We perform at every home varsity boys game and special varsity girls games. We also perform at parades and other special events. I’ve been on the team since sophomore year and it’s an amazing opportunity.
Post Game Selfie! Marshall Lions beat the Flora Wolves tonight with a score of 49-35. It was a close game and we came out on top. My team performed a dance to the song “That’s My Girl” by Little Mix. Overall, it was a fantastic day! Hope you all have an amazing Christmas! xoxo
